Che gli Imagine Dragons abbiano sempre dato molta importanza all’aspetto video della loro produzione è cosa nota. La band americana – che sarà al Lucca Summer Festival il 4 luglio prossimo – ha sempre fatto video molto curati e ‘fantasiosi’: dai pupazzi combattenti di ‘Radioactive’, ai quadri di Tim Cantor che prendono vita, hanno sempre fatto dei clip molto interessanti, curati e ben strutturati.
Non poteva, quindi, essere molto diverso il video che anticipa l’uscita del loro prossimo lavoro, atteso a breve: si tratta di ‘Believer’, un brano che il frontman della band di Las Vegas, Dan Reynold, definisce molto positivo e incentrato sull’amore.
Il video – diretto da Matt Eastin – vede Dan Reynold combattere con una versione di se stesso invecchiata. La particolarità è che, a differenza di Benjamin Button, non si tratta di Reynold invecchiato attraverso alchimie computeristiche, bensì si tratta di un attore in carne e ossa che interpreta il cantante invecchiato. E questo attore è Dolph Ludgren, il mitico Ivan Drago, ‘nemico’ di Rocky nel quarto capitolo della saga di Sylvester Stallone. Non è un caso che gli Imagine Dragons abbiano scelto questo attore: come spiega Reynold, infatti, ha dichiarato che hanno voluto far rivivere i loro film preferiti di quando erano ragazzi. E, in parte, di conseguenza, vivere un loro sogno.
Il combattimento – tema caro agli Imagine Dragons che troviamo anche in altri clip, come in ‘Radioactive’ – avviene in un’atmosfera futuristica e per certi versi psichedelica, mentre un bambino disegna. Un bambino che, ovviamente, rappresenta Reynold da piccolo. Insomma, questo video ci fa capire che la lotta peggiore, il cantante degli Imagine Dragons l’ha combattuta contro se stesso e non contro l’esterno.
Il video è piacevole da guardarsi e la canzone riporta gli Imagine Dragons agli alti standards di ‘Night Vision’, dopo che ‘Smoke + Mirrors’ li aveva visti ammorbidirsi un po’ rispetto al precedente disco.
