La Sony Music pubblica l’edizione in vinile degli album di Prince che sono adesso in disposizione per i fans del ‘Folletto di Minneapolis’ che possono così arricchire la propria collezione.

One Nite Alone… The Aftershow: It Aint’ Over Yet!
Viene pubblicato in doppio lp in vinile di colore viola e documenta Prince a tarda notte, dopo le performance dello spettacolo ufficiale. Non era mai stato pubblicato come prodotto fisico a se stante e disponibile solo in cd, come parte del cofanetto ‘One Nite Alone’, concesso in esclusiva ai membri del Npg Music Club. L’album include un’ora di incredibili jam Session e presenta delle apparizioni ‘a sorpresa’ come quella di George Clinton e quella di Musiq Soulchild.

THE RAINBOW CHILDREN
Mentre il mondo salutava la promessa di un nuovo millennio, persino Prince viveva un grande senso di trasformazione. Nel 2000 annunciava infatti la rivendicazione del suo nome dopo essere stato per sette anni un simbolo imprecisabile. Nel 2001, dopo un periodo in studio e di dibattito con il suo amico e mentore Larry Graham (ex bassista di Sly e The Family Stone), Prince divenne Testimone di Geova. Queste trasformazioni diedero alcuni frutti, tra cui l’uscita di The Rainbow Children alla fine del 2001. Presentato come “controverso” nelle sue dichiarazioni alla stampa per l’aperto messaggio spirituale che conteneva, l’album di matrice jazz è stata la prima pubblicazione completamente indipendente di Prince, distribuito senza il supporto di una etichetta discografica. Una delle canzoni, “The Work, Pt. 1 “, fu pubblicata da Prince in versione digitale gratuita attraverso Napster. Questa mossa, insieme allo streaming diretto al consumatore e alle opzioni di download presenti nel NPG Music Club, resero Prince un pioniere della musica digitale. The Rainbow Children è uno dei dischi preferiti dai fan di lunga data di Prince per la sua complessa narrazione musicale, per l’uso di tamburi e una sezione completa di corni, oltre alla straordinaria copertina realizzata dall’artista Cbabi Bayoc, ancora oggi appesa nelle sacre sale di Paisley Park. Il CD è stato fuori catalago per molto tempo ed il vinile originale era in edizione limitatissima, con le copie originali che attualmente valgono centinaia di dollari. Questa nuova edizione in doppio vinile trasparente viene prodotta in edizione limitata ed in una confezione accompagnata da un esclusivo slipmat color arcobaleno.

ONE NITE ALONE … (SOLO PIANO AND VOICE BY PRINCE)
Prince face seguire alla pubblicazione di ‘The Rainbow Children’ l’incredibile “One Nite Alone…” nel maggio 2002. Con quasi nient’altro che il piano acustico e la voce (salvo qualche parte occasionale suonata dal batterista John Blackwell e i suoni ambientale di Divinity e Majesty, le colombe di Prince), questo album intimo offre brani incredibili come “U’re Gonna C Me” e una cover di “A Case Of U”, scritto da uno degli idoli di Prince, Joni Mitchell. L’album originale non ha mai avuto una adeguata distribuzione fisica in quanto il CD era un’esclusiva destinata ai membri del Prince NPG Music Club.

Dopo l’uscita di ‘The Rainbow Children’ e prima dell’uscita dell’album in studio ‘One Nite Alone …’, Prince aveva intrapreso un tour con lo stesso nome. Questo viaggio ottimistico attraverso i teatri del Nord America presentava la band New Power Generation in continua espansione. I membri dell’epoca includevano il batterista John Blackwell, il tastierista Renato Neto e i collaboratori di lunga data come la bassista Rhonda Smith e una sezione che includeva i sassofonisti Eric Leeds, Candy Dulfer e Maceo Parker. Tratto dai momenti salienti di ben 9 diversi spettacoli del 2002, la raccolta in 4 LP rappresenta il primo album dal vivo ufficiale della carriera di Prince e le 27 tracce includevano pezzi tratti da The Rainbow Children e dall’ampio catalogo dell’artista suonato con l’intera NPG e diverse parti solista al piano (“When U Were Mine”, “Raspberry Berrett”,”Adore”,”The Beautiful Ones”,”Nothing Compares 2 U”).
